Region: CIS. Country: Kazakhstan. Business: O&G. Field: Karachaganak. Operator: KPO. Karachaganak – Phase 3.


This week, I will introduce KPO. It is a promising prospect for a Gas treatment companies. However, you have to be patient and persistent as Gas industry in Kazakhstan is highly geopolitical.

Shareholders: BG (29.25) ; ENI (29.25) ; Chevron (18) ; Lukoil (13.5) ; KMG (10)
Production: Oil 200 000 bpd – Gaz 650 Mcfpd
KPO. The deposit area is 280 km2, and its reserves are estimated at more than 1.2 billion tons of oil and condensate and over 1.35 trillion m3 of gas.

1. A Karachaganak future development group: EPC/EPCM: Fluor, WorleyParsons, and KGNT are interested.         
A vendor assessment process. The process is aiming to assess and to qualify contractors and services providers. You have to be registered to be invited.     
Scope of the project. Gas condensation facilities.  Gas treatment. Increase of production and additional injection and related facilities. If the GOK is willing to use the gas for domestic uses, some related facilities treatments are needed, as well.
FEED is expected for the 4th Qr of 2013.
In 2014, Kazakhstan plans to invest $ 3.7 billion to build a power plant for the processing of natural gas from the Karachaganak field to supply gas to the domestic market
In 2017, the plant will supply gas to Astana and northern regions of Kazakhstan (according to KMG)
It is also expected, that there will be an increase in supply in 2019-2021 to 5 billion cubic meters.
The Ministry of Oil and Gas of Kazakhstan intends to negotiate with Russia on a JV based on the Orenburg gas processing plant, which imports gas from Karachaganak.   

2. Ongoing Projects. Ongoing project, mainly Brownfield and medium size projects.
The plateau Extension project. KPC gas bottle necking. Scope: improve gas treatment capability power facilities and gas improvement system.
Gas injection upgrade. The technical solution related to this phase is not established yet.  The issue is how to use the existing facilities to inject more gaz.
